About The Competition
Each year the Jamaica Productivity Centre (JPC) recognizes World Productivity Day which is celebrated on June 20th. The Productivity Innovation Competition 2024 is a key activity leading up to our World Productivity Day 2024 celebrations. Since the inaugural competition in 2021, the JPC seeks to promote, encourage and reward the development of transformative ideas that can boost sustainable productivity improvement.
The inception of the Productivity Innovation Competition in 2021 marked the introduction of a competition open to the general populace. Subsequent refinements to this initiative included the establishment of the Innovator of the Year Competition in 2022. Further diversifying the competition landscape, categories for entrepreneurs and tertiary students will be included in the 2024 competition.
This year the competition is being held under the theme “Bridging the Innovation and Productivity Gaps: Education, Skills and Economic Transformation”. Recent research on the status of productivity in Jamaica, reveals that an inadequate innovation ecosystem and lack of skills and quality education are critical limiters of potential productivity growth in Jamaica. In light of this, the Centre seeks to create an environment that supports innovative thinking and learning in the innovation space.
